Pandora - The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park

Pandora - The World of Avatar is a themed land in Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park. It is inspired by the James Cameron movie "Avatar" and was opened in 2017.

Once you step foot in Pandora, you do feel like you are truly in another world. You are instantly surrounded by floating mountains, unique plants, and the sounds of alien wildlife. And that's just during the day. I'll introduce you to Pandora at night soon.

The land contains two food locations and one gift shop. Satu'li Canteen is the quick-service restaurant serving up globally inspired dishes, vegetarian options, and specialty libationsPongu Pongu is a food and beverage stand. I ordered the specialty drink, Night Blossom, from Pongu Pongu (snack credit on the Dining plan!) and LOVED it! It's layers of apple and desert pear Limeade topped with passion fruit boba balls. It definitely has a tangy flavor, but I really enjoyed this refreshing frozen treat with personality! It felt like it fit right in with the surrounding environment.

As far as attractions, there are two in this land. Avatar Flight of Passage, which is a 3D flying simulator thrill attraction. It is without a doubt one of the most popular rides in all of the theme parks Walt Disney World® Resort. You are likely to find 2-3+ hour waits for this attraction, and a FastPass+ for it can be hard to come by. You hop on your own ride vehicle that you straddle like a bike, and a light restraint on your back and calves keeps you secure and safe for an individual experience. The concept is you are linked with an Avatar and flying on a mountain Banshee through the Pandora landscape. It's complete with all the emotional feels, including the physical feels of the wind passing by you, the breathing of your Banshee underneath you, the beautiful smells of the planet, and more. It's not only a thrill ride but joyful and exhilarating. I have personally ridden Flight of Passage and have to say it is absolutely a life-changing ride, and we left in happy tears. It's important to note that those with severe motion sickness may have trouble with it, and the height requirement is 44''.  In the photo below, you can see by our smiles we are getting ready to link to our Avatars!

The other attraction in this land is Na'vi River Journey, a dark boat ride through the Kapsavan River, showcasing the native fauna and flora of Pandora, including animatronics and 3D holograms that seem unbelievably real. It's a calming ride with beautiful music and sights and a great choice for families with smaller children that can't ride Flight of Passage because of height restrictions or motion sickness.

I told you I would introduce to Pandora at night, and that is an experience on a whole other level! If you can, make sure you make your way back here to take this in. As nighttime descends upon Pandora - The World of Avatar, the daytime beauty transforms into glow by night when the bioluminescent rainforest comes to life before your eyes everywhere you look.

One more thing, if you time it right, make sure to watch the Swotu Wayä Na'vi Drum Ceremony. It's a  captivating musical showcase that celebrates the spirit of Pandora—with unique rhythms emanating from massive drums, hanging orbs, colorful shells and other organic elements native to the Na’vi. Enchanting music is played and while we were watching a nighttime showing, a special call was made for the sounds of the Banshees, which we heard coming from over the floating mountain. This land is one of a kind.
